Grunie Uminer, Director
Grunie is the Director at the Chabad of Chestnut Hill, which includes Camp Gan Israel and all year round programming for Jewish education and experience, including Chabad Hebrew School, Bat Mitzvah Club, Chai 5, Mommy & Me, Friendship Circle and Leviot to name just a few. She has been involved in Jewish education for the past 20+ years. A qualified and licensed educator for both children and adults, Grunie has camping experience from camps in Belgium, South Africa, Hong Kong, Arizona and Upstate New York. She lives in Chestnut Hill with her husband Mendy and 10 children. Camp Gan Israel is a huge part of the contributions the Uminers have made to the Greater Boston Jewish Community and are proud to have had thousands of campers go through its doors since its inception.
Rachel DeFilipp, Program Director
Rachel DeFilipp is excited to join Camp Gan Israel at Chestnut Hill. She has a Bachelors in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University and has completed additional graduate level Operations coursework at University of Pittsburgh and Georgia Institute of Technology. She enjoys putting her operations expertise to work planning and organizing the Camp Gan programming. Rachel brings experience from summers working as a camp counselor, overnight camp office assistant, and many summers life guarding in New Jersey, Upstate New York and Michigan. Rachel has lived in Boston for the last 5 years with her husband and five children. She loves exploring New England with her family from coastal Maine beaches to maple sugaring farms and hiking. Rachel has even hiked the Grand Canyon twice - once on the South Rim and once in the Havasupai Indian Reservation.
