MINI GAN
This week was Recycle with Oscar the Grouch:) In addition to colored pasta for necklaces in Art; decorating sun visors in Nature; Doing static electricity, milk and soap experiments in Science; stacking cups with rubber bands in Team Building; Doing sink and float with put diff thing in bottles
in Mini Gan Science with Heather; We also had loads of fun doing activities relating to taking care of the environment. On Monday we went on a nature walk. We had to find all kind of interesting items and make a bracelet out of the beautiful things we saw on the walk. We also made a delicious edible flower sundae using pudding and crushed cookies:) On Tuesday it was rainy, but that didn't take away from all our CGI fun. We managed to fit
in some extra, spectacular, super duper activities that made Tuesday a blast! Mini Gan friends played keep up with balloons, played with all our awesome trucks, did parachute games, had some amazing music fun, marched around camp with bean bags on our heads, had fun with face paint, did pretty art projects and painted garden decorations from My Favorite Guy Day. On Wednesday Transitional Gan had the best time ever picking blueberries at Ward Berry
Farm. They were the most delicious juicy blueberries. YUM! Transitional Gan had fun making trees using their hand prints and finger prints. Thursday was so special, as Baby barn visited camp, and we held the sweetest, little animals wrapped in blankets! We played with bubbles and had fun with sidewalk chalk. We got extra time doing fun body games with Judy! Decorating our recycled boxes was a highlight this week. We first decided what our box would
be. We then go to work, cutting, gluing painting and using lots of material to make our box just the way we wanted it. Some friends thought their boxes were bubble machines, jewelry boxes, a shield, Saturn, a rocket ship, a choo choo train and green head mask. It was amazing to see the original and brilliant ideas the kids came up with. We also made grassheads by first making eyes, nose and a mouth on a knee high stocking. We then stuffed it with
grass seeds and soil. Afterwards we put them near our bunk room windows and watered them. We can’t wait for the grass to grow and give our grassheads haircuts:) We ended of the fun day with a great camp game of animal tag! On Friday we really enjoyed the bug show! In addition to Evans music class with the Mini Gan, he did an exciting music class with Transitional Gan! We made challah and decorated a shabbat bag to keep all our shabbat projects
in. We got to work coloring squares that will be added to a gigantic camp mosaic wall!
Wow this week was fun!
Shabbat Shalom, and looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Playing the Game of Candy Land, we learned all about Brachot, Kosher, and being happy. Starting Monday, we played a grand game of CUT THE CHOCOLATE CAKE! Dressing up as fast as we could, it was loads of fun! Tuesday came along and boy, it was great! We had a blast playing Kosher BINGO and learned all about
Kosher animals and symbols! Wednesday was TRIP DAY! Camp Gan Izzy was so lucky to be the FIRST group to visit STAR LAND after all of their renovations! We rode go karts, played mini golf, and played a competitive round of lazer tag! After having a smashing time at Star Land, we visited a local super market and had a KOSHER HUNT where we identified different Kosher symbols on food packages. Keeping Kosher came to life! The fun didn't end, and that
evening we all met again at the FAMILY BBQ right here in camp! It was so nice to chat with campers and parents while having a good laugh at the hilarious CLOWN SHOW. Thursday rolled around and that was really great! While the Explorers went off to swimming, the Trailblazers and Pioneers went on their surprise trip to MINI GOLF IIN THE DARK! We also made our very own Bracha flower pots made of foods with different Blessings, YUM! On Friday we had
a "Bugging out" show with Marvelous Marvin where we learned all about cool bugs in riddles and rhymes! The week ended off with our very own stupendous CARNIVAL where we had fun racing our friends at different booths. Shabbat Shalom! See you on Monday.

TRAIL BLAZER AND PIONEER BOYS
Seriously Boston? Can't we just collect all these crazy temperatures together and spread them evenly over the course of the year and rename the city San Diego? But that wouldn't be as exciting as the unpredictability that makes Gan Izzy so much fun.
Let's see... We started off the week with a Candy Hunt - which sounds great until you find out that you only have one working pair of eyes and hands and legs between you and your friend. But of course, it was worth it, because it was candy. We started making these awesome colorful wooden charity boxes, coming to a Gan
Izzy near you this summer. The Bean Hunt was intense (and not just because it was raining), my team almost found a Golden Egg! At least we got some silver beans. Off we go to the newly renovated Starland! It was their first day open, and we got to do all these amazing stuff, like talking electric Go-Karts that recharge between races, batting cages with speed settings up to 90mph, glow in the dark Laser Tag, and a great game of Mini Golf. That was
good because it got us ready for the next day of sub(7)zero temperatures, which kept us away from the pool, but did not keep the smile off our faces, because we got to go to... Monster Golf! It was so freaky, that I started having nightmares in middle of the day. We got back to camp for some serious relay races, before we were ready for an amazing... Chinese Auction. My team had 13,985 points, which we invested into some awesome prizes like washing
Rabbi Dovid's car, a jar of pickles, or my favorite, a pair of dirty socks for 5,000 points! On Friday, we got to see the most interesting show about bugs you'll ever see. It was so interesting that if they were kosher, I would totally go for some freeze dried ant chips... yuck! Did you know that some grasshoppers are Kosher, we just don't know which? We ended off the week with a grand carnival in which I got a bull’s-eye on the dartboard - almost,
won the Pepsi taste test - almost, and successfully navigated the obstacle while blindfolded - almost.
Of course the highlight was the family BBQ, where I won the hot dog eating contest against Chuckles the Clown.
Can't wait to see what next week will bring!
Shabbat Shalom

Parshat Eikev
In the Parshah of Eikev ( “Because”), Moses continues his closing address to the Children of Israel, promising
them that if they will fulfill the commandments ( mitzvot) of the Torah, they will prosper in the Land
they are about to conquer and settle in keeping with G‑d’s promise to their forefathers.
Moses also rebukes them for their failings in their first generation as a people, recalling their worship of the Golden
Calf, the rebellion of Korach, the sin of the spies, their angering of G‑d at Taveirah, Massah and Kivrot
Hataavah ( “The Graves of Lust”). “You have been rebellious against G‑d,” he says to them, “since the day I knew you.” But he also speaks of G‑d’s forgiveness
of their sins, and the Second Tablets which G‑d inscribed and gave to them following their repentance.
Their forty years in the desert, says Moses to the people, during which G‑d sustained them with daily manna from heaven, was to teach them “that man does not live on bread
alone, but by the utterance of G‑d’s mouth does man live.”
Moses describes the land they are about to enter as “flowing with milk and honey,” blessed with the “seven kinds”
( wheat, barley, grapevines, figs,
pomegranates, olive oil and dates),
and as the place that is the focus of G‑d’s providence of His world. He commands them to destroy the idols
of the land’s former masters, and to beware lest they become haughty and begin to believe that “my power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.”
A key passage in our Parshah is the second chapter of the Shema, which repeats the fundamental mitzvot enumerated in the Shema’s first chapter, and describes the rewards
of fulfilling G‑d’s commandments and the adverse results (famine and exile) of their neglect. It is also the source of the precept of prayer,
and includes a reference to the resurrection of the dead in the messianic age.

Recommendation
We are only able to deliver quality programming becauseof the high quality staff we hire. This year's counselors are really phenomenal. They are enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to making your child's summer experience a memorable
one. In addition to some local recruits, we also have a number of counselors from as far away as Florida, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Atlanta & even
Argentina & China. These young women and men an exceptional job, and your child has reaped the benefits of their hard work. To this end,
it would be a welcomed gesture to show them your appreciation. Although not required, a suggested gratuity at the end of your child's session would be greatly appreciated. Please decide on an amount you would like to give per camper, and divide that out between all the counselors in the group. |
