Camp Gan Israel at Chestnut Hill

Dear Campers and Parents
Second week of camp just flew by. It has been awesome seeing all the campers smiling faces and hearing their happy voices every day!! Each day is so full of activity and fun that I've gotten a request for "recess" from some campers.
As per the parent handbook- campers are required to wear closed athletic shoes every day. Only at the pool can they wear flip flops.

Please check out the pictures online-your kids look amazing and look adorable!!

It continues to be an honor and pleasure to have your child(ren) in camp and we look forward to an awesome week 3 together.

MINI GAN

We had a super fun second week of camp! We enjoyed all our specialists, sports and swimming.
This week was Kermit the Frogs choir and we did lots of exciting music activities. We started the week by making edible celery flutes. We each took turns playing different tunes with our celery flutes. We sang

Five green speckled frogs, sitting on a speckled log eating the most delicious bugs. Yum yum! One jumped into the pool, where it was nice and cool, now there are four green speckled frogs. When we sang the part of the song where the frog jumped into the pool we bit into our celery and ate one frog ( a chocolate chipJ.

Some of our other awesome activities included:
pass the parcel and everyone got a prize!
Painting Mason jar lids for our musical garden. Thank you to all the parents who brought them in!
Musical chairs and Sharks and Islands. It was such a blast!

This week we had a great time playing with our new water walls, water tables and play kitchen with real pots, pans, bowls and...water! We also made tinfoil waterfalls and rivers. In addition to all our water fun we have been enjoying our huge bubble wands and bubbles.

On Wednesday the Transitional Gan went to the indoor playground and had a blast. Make sure to check out the pictures on campgan.org.

We finished our music week with a big Shabbat party drum circle which included many different instruments.

We had a great week and can’t wait for week 3

EXPOLRERS TRAIL BLAZER GIRLS & PIONEER GIRLS
Hey Gan Izzy! What a great week we just had! Each of our specialist activities were awesome. In addition to Art, Craft, Nature, Science, Drama, Kung Fu, Cooking, Sports and Swimming, we loved playing the game of "Life,". We learned all about Jewish Holidays. Starting off with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we had a tantalizing food test tasting all types of Rosh Hashana foods. Moving on to the holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah, we played an awesome game of Four Corners. The Trail Blazer & pioneer girls had a late stay activity at camp “SPA NIGHT” & DANCE FEVER- was so much fun!!
Wednesday was TRIP DAY! We all went to Rock On where we did all sorts of rock climbing and cool flips! The Pioneers and Trailblazers went on an exhilarating canoe adventure while all of the Explorers did mini golf in the DARK! Pretty spooky! Thursday was July 4th, and we all missed Camp Gan Izzy SO much. But have no fear! Friday we all came back to Camp Gan Izzy re-energized for a great day of sports, swimming, activities, and fun! Our week ended off with a smashing shaving cream paperclip hunt and a joyous Shabbat Party.

Can't wait for next week!

Love,

Chaya & Nechama

TRAIL BLAZER & PIONEER BOYS
And... We're back! Another exciting week here at Camp Gan. Who would'a thunk that in such a short week we could squeeze in so much action? We had this exciting, suspenseful game of Human Stratego, where each camper became a live playing piece. I was a General which made me feel really important, until I bumped into a Bomb and exploded into jail - and I thought the only explosions of the week were scheduled for the 4th. At least we found their flag - it looked a little different than the star spangled banner. After some warm up elimination games, we learned a new game called Monarch, non-stop action defiantly trying to be the last man standing. Did you see my brand new muti-colored, bifold, precision designed, expertly crafted, duct tape wallet? Mine was red, white and blue - I'm not sure why, but those colors were just stuck in my head. I traveled to a few new "Back to the Future" destinations this week. Did you know that Avraham would make his July 4th BBQ in the dessert and have lots of guests? I wonder if they were the ancestors of the native Americans. Trip day was jam packed fun starting with an awesome kayaking trip. The lifeguards instructed us to wear life jackets, they said something about the water being wet. The gave me a funnily shaped baseball bat, and said that it would help my boat move. I saw everyone dipping their bat, paddle, oar, or whatever you want to call it, into the water, so I did the same. I couldn't for the life of me figure out when to dip it on the right side and when to dip in on the left side - It reminded me of the passover Seder. I kept looking for the Marror in the lake, but all I found was some delicious seaweed - I think I'm getting into this Sushi thing. Do you think Columbus had the same kind of experience discovering America? I guess not, otherwise Sushi would be American (actually, Italian, but still...) Next, we headed to the gym. I was thinking we were going to play some basketball, but instead we just climbed the walls with colorful bumps protruding all over the place. I kept on getting to the top, only for them to tell me that I should come back down, #confused. I think they said it was rock climbing. Either way it was lots of fun, and enough strenuous activity that I didn't mind skipping a day of camp to recuperate and get ready for even more fun! We also had a late night - or is it an early evening, where we had a BBQ (as preparation for the big 4), stories and games. All in all, it was a blast, and so glad to be in this Land of the free, Camp of the brave. Happy America!

Shabbat Shalom!

Wednesday Field Trip:
Please note that next weeks primary program field trip has changed. (Due to the scheduled trip's renovations taking a lil longer than expected). We are going to Roller Palace and will also have Maccabiah Color War on Wednesday. Please send your camper with socks.
Mini Gan will be going to the Franklin Park Zoo.

Parshat Matot-Massei

Moses conveys the laws governing the annulment of vows to the heads of the tribes of Israel. War is waged against Midian for their role in plotting the moral destruction of Israel, and the Torah gives a detailed account of the war spoils and how they were allocated amongst the people, the warriors, the Levites and the high priest.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad (later joined by half of the tribe of Manasseh) ask for the lands east of the Jordan as their portion in the Promised Land, these being prime pastureland for their cattle. Moses is initially angered by the request, but subsequently agrees on the condition that they first join, and lead, in Israel’s conquest of the lands west of the Jordan.

The forty-two journeys and encampments of Israel are listed, from the Exodus to their encampment on the plains of Moab across the river from the land of Canaan. The boundaries of the Promised Land are given, and cities of refuge are designated as havens and places of exile for inadvertent murderers. The daughters of Tzelafchad marry within their own tribe of Manasseh, so that the estate which they inherit from their father should not pass to the province of another tribe.

Tipping Recommendation
We are only able to deliver quality programming because
of the high quality staff we hire. This year's counselors are really phenomenal. They are enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to making your child's summer experience a memorable one. In addition to some local recruits, we also have a number of counselors from as far away as Florida, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Atlanta & even Argentina & China. These young women and men an exceptional job, and your child has reaped the benefits of their hard work. To this end, it would be a welcomed gesture to show them your appreciation. Although not required, a suggested gratuity at the end of your child's session would be greatly appreciated. Please decide on an amount you would like to give per camper, and divide that out between all the counselors in the group.
